Welcome to FOWEC Project
PARO started the Fostering Women Empowerment for Change Project (FOWEC) in three districts of northern Ghana, namely Sagnarigu, Kumbungu, and Tolon, and the project was launched at the Sagnarigu Chief Palace on April 28th, 2024. This project is targeted at making women skilled, by providing them the training in weaving. Moreover, the project is against the GBV (Gender-Based Violence) in these districts, it involves the stakeholders, the community groups, and the women who have survived the GBV. The people who survived this tragedy will be taught about GBV and will also be the beneficiaries of the skill training program.
Project Highlights:
- Skill Training: Women will be trained in the skills of weaving in the communities, which will be of value to them for economic empowerment.
GBV Advocacy: The purpose of the project is to make people aware of the Gender-Based Violence and to give them the help they need so they can get rid of the problems on their own by learning and developing skills.
Community Engagement: The project, in the end, was implemented into the communities and brought the stakeholders and community groups into the project.
Launch Event Recap:
The launch at the Sagnarigu Chief Palace was a success because the chief expressed his interest and appreciation for the initiative’s focus on economic empowerment of survivors in his community and neighboring areas. The chief’s friendly attitude towards the project was a symbol of the community’s backing for the project. The stakeholders and the community groups were taken part in the launch, and thus, it set the right way for the project to be implemented. Below is the event in pictures:
Next Steps:
- Continued Advocacy: The project will still stand up for the anti-GBV campaigns and provide services to survivors, thus, they can have schooling and learn new skills.
- Expansion: The launch in Sagnarigu is the launching pad for the expansion of the project to some other districts in northern Ghana thus the success of which will give a further boost to the mission of empowering the women and combating GBV.
FOWEC is doing a lot to help women, and at the same time, it is fighting against the Gender-Based Violence in northern Ghana. Come along with us and help to back this very important initiative for the good of our society.
